Loadbearing Handrail Staircases
For those who would prefer the warming feel of traditional timber of staircase, yet also need a staircase solution which feels a little more open, one alternative to a traditional timber stringer support is a loadbearing handrail staircase.
These staircases, instead of using a traditional stringer to prove support, instead shift the loadbearing work onto the staircase handrail. The treads are then suspended directly from the handrail.
The handrail, being taller and chunkier in appearance to provide all important strength and a seriously firm handhold, folds down to the floor to double as a feature newel post.
Support options for the wall side can be modified to either cantilever from the wall or be visible in a veriety of different materials and support styles.
